For Responsible Spending

Philosophically I believe that taxation is theft. Frédéric Bastiat wrote in The Law, published in 1850, “When a portion of wealth is transferred from the person who owns it — without his consent and without compensation, and whether by force or by fraud — to anyone who does not own it, then I say that property is violated; that an act of plunder is committed.” This is good for the average constituent because you can feel assured that I will fight tax increases as hard as I can, always try to lower tax rates as close to zero as possible, and do my best to make sure your tax dollars that I can’t stop from being stolen, are spent as wisely and as frugally as possible. But you shouldn’t be worried that I will come in with an Axe and no appreciation for all the things taxes are expected to be raised for and pay for now. I will however, be looking for alternative methods to finance new infrastructure and the upkeep of old.

For Transparency

Our Commissioners Court at this time is held on Thursdays at 8:30 am. That must be convenient for them, but guess who is getting kids off to school or just starting their work day? Yup, anyone who might be inclined to stop in and make their voices heard or give input into how the county is ran or the money is spent. This has to change! Meetings should be held at a convenient time for the constituents, not the Court! Meeting should be live cast so constituents who can’t make it can stay informed without having to find minutes when they are finally posted somewhere. As Commissioner, I pledge to attempt to change those things and discuss each of my votes on some form of easily accessed media.
